George David Pierce, 71, of Layton, Utah passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family on July 18th, 2021. His body succumbed to complications from a 30-year battle with diabetes.
Dave was born to George Ethridge Pierce and Eleanor Louise Swift Pierce on October 4th, 1949 and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He graduated the class of 1967 from South High School in Salt Lake City. Dave married Debra Lee Lanier on May 22, 1982 and together they had 4 children; Matthew, Randy, Terry and Stephanie.
In his early years he was a high school track star who competed in hurdling. He was an Army Veteran of the Vietnam War having served as a communications specialist from 1969 – 1971.
Dave was employed with the UTA for 26 years and drove over 2 million miles before retiring in 2005. He enjoyed movies of all kinds, especially the scary ones as well as watching NASCAR. Most of all he loved fishing with his daughter, shooting with his 3 sons and a having a good laugh with his 8 grandkids.
Dave was preceded in death by his father, George Ethridge Pierce, his mother, Eleanor Louise Swift Pierce, his cat Oreo and his bird Lucky. His legacy lives on through his wife Debra Lee Lanier Pierce, brother, Darrel (Vicky) Pierce, sister, Sue Swift, son, Matthew (Michelle) Pierce, son Randy (Rachelle) Pierce, son Terry (Jessica) Pierce, daughter Stephanie Pierce, his 8 grandchildren Ashlyn, Kenzie, Nicole, Lavin, Carter, Carley, Christian, Roczen, and his furry friends McQueen and Jonesy
To celebrate his life, services will be held with a viewing, Sunday, July 25th from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM, a viewing Monday, July 26th from 9:00 AM – 9:45 AM followed by a funeral at 10:00 AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Stake Center located at 1480 Phillips Street in Kaysville, UT.
