Georg Wolfgang Koenig

February 10, 1952 — December 28, 2021

In February of 1952 in Cottbus, Germany, a sweet, chubby, blonde-haired, blue-eyed baby boy came into this world.  He was born to Christa Dorethea Birth and Georg Hans Werner Koenig.  He was their second child, yet first born son.  They named him Georg Wolfgang Koenig.  He lived there in Germany with his parents and sister for a little over a year.
In July of 1953, he and his family boarded the Queen Elizabeth bound for New York. They bravely immigrated to the United States.  They traveled all the way across America to arrive in Salt Lake City, Utah.  His family would build a home there in the Avenues.  He and his five siblings would grow up there.  He would go on to attend Ensign Elementary, Bryant Jr. High, Stewart School and East High School.  Although he did not know it at the time, he would meet his future wife (Valerie Hatch) in kindergarten, and attend school with her almost every year.  They would become high school sweethearts and marry in December of 1970.  Together they would have three children and although their first, a son would not live past ten days they too would go onto raise their two girls there in the Avenues. Later divorcing after 40 years together.
Georg was extremely talented in all that he did.  He loved all sports (lettering in soccer in High School) and later taking up golfing.  He loved skiing (snow and water), swimming, boating, fishing, motorcycling from dirt bikes to his Harley days, and even skydiving!  He was a real people person and enjoyed vacationing or golfing with friends and family.  He was an Eagle Scout and later gave back as the scoutmaster.
He always shared his talents by teaching others what he knew.  He loved building, doing home repairs, and glazing.  He offered his services to hundreds over the years.  He opened Polished Edge Glass where he shared his knowledge and passion for residential and commercial glass work for over 20 years.
Later he and Robin Lynn joined life and were able to spend 10 wonderful years living life’s adventures together and they became best of friends.
Georg enjoyed playing golf and spending time with buddies from the Hack Pack he would say “I’ll See you on the Golf Course” He Lived life to its fullest. His golf game was outstanding he was always wanting to be the best in every aspect in life.
Robin had never had a dog of her own and Georg changed all of that by getting her an Australian Labradoodle named Daisy May He loved Robin and their dog.
He was grateful for all his family and friends; He touched many lives and will be sorely missed.
Georg always had great love for and pride in his children & grandchildren.
He departed from this life on December 28, 2021, and will be missed very much by all of them.
He is preceded in death by his son (Shane Koenig) and his parents Christa and Werner Koenig.  Georg will be lovingly remembered by his daughters Kimberly (Chris) Healy, Melany (Trevor) Strong, grandchildren Sage Strong, Hayden Strong and Carter Healy, his children’s mother Valerie Hatch Koenig, his siblings and extended family and Robin Lynn.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held in the near future more details to follow.
