Geneva Clara Burns

January 2, 1925 — December 29, 2017

We are here to celebrate and honor the life of Geneva Burns. Geneva was born in meager surroundings in Salt Lake City, UT on January 2, 1925 to her father Hyrum William Hayes and her mother Hattie Sophia Rundstedt. She was the oldest of four children, and the only daughter. She lived for years in Salt Lake City and worked at the Tooele Ordinance Depot. She married Melvin Aldean Evans in 1943. They had five children, Melvin Evans, Diana Shell, Donald Evans, Marlene Burns, and Willard Evans. Melvin passed away in 1976. She married Elmer Jenkins and had one son, Alan Jenkins. She later married Buford Burns, and she helped raised his son Steve and daughter Karen.
Geneva worked for years at McClellan Air Force Base in North Highlands, California. She spent the last 17 years living with her son, surrounded by her family and loved ones. When her children were grown, her poodles became her children. They were her constant companions, especially Dobie. She was a very quiet, unassuming, unconditionally loving person. She lived a long and full life, surrounded by children and family who love and cherish her. Mom was known by many names, Mom, Grandma, and Grammie.
She was preceded in death by her spouses, Melvin Evans, Elmer Jenkins, and Buford Burns; by parents; her three brothers, Ivan, Vernon and Keith; and one son, Donald.
She is survived by her children, Melvin (Joyce) Evans, Diana (Richard) Shell, Carol (Donald, deceased) Jackson, Marlene (Steve) Burns, and Willard (Bobbetta) Evans, Alan (Kelly) Jenkins, Karen (Phil) Hull; 21 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
