Gene Martinson

January 29, 1930 — October 4, 2019

Our dear Dad and Grandpa passed away peacefully, with his family at his side, on Oct. 4, 2019 at the age of 89. Gene grew up in his historic family home on Coatsville Avenue with four doting sisters, a loving mom and dad and grandma. He loved telling stories of his happy childhood and often looked back to those “good old days.” Gene started a life-long career at the Newspaper Agency Corporation as a teenager, following in the footsteps of his father, as a pressman. He was a dedicated worker and provider for his family, retiring from the newspaper 45 years later.
Gene met the love of his life, Pat Ellerman on a blind date. He proposed after just a few months. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on Dec. 3, 1953. They shared life and love for 55 years. During those years, they welcomed three precious children into their home, Gary, Jenny, and Curt who each meant everything to their dad. Dad loved taking the kids camping and vacationing, especially to the Uintah’s, Southern Utah, Yellowstone and Disneyland.
Gene loved wood-working, taking kids and grandkids out in his 1930 Model A, socializing with his close friends, the Barrett’s and Oborne’s, and watching sports of all kinds, but especially the Utes. Gene was a dedicated member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in many callings throughout his life. He was proud to say he’d never missed a month with home teaching.
Gene is survived by son, Curt Martinson (Shawna). Preceded in death by wife, Pat, son, Gary Martinson (Karen), daughter, Jenny Wiscomb (Tom) and numerous wonderful grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as siblings, Marian Shill Roberts, Lucille Breur, Betty Ann Mills, and Shirley Heap.
