Geertje “Grace” Eckhardt

December 18, 1920 — February 21, 2017

Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away February 21, 2017 in West Jordan UT. She was born Dec. 18, 1920 to Rinze van de Zee and Froukje Heersma van der Zee in Rotterdam Netherlands. Married Jacobus Eckhardt July 16, 1947 in Rotterdam, Netherlands. They immigrated to the U.S and arrived in Salt Lake City April 25, 1962. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on August 9, 1985. She is happy again being whole and reunited with the love of her life after 39 years. She spent her life serving and caring for others. She served a family history mission to Las Vegas, Nevada and then in Los Angeles, California. She will be remembered for her unconditional boundless love and unwavering optimism. She is the strongest women we know. Her faith and love for her Heavenly Father is unparalled. Many will remember her quiet acts of kindness, words of comfort, and her warm hugs. She had a strong testimony of the gospel and she held numerous callings and loved to serve in the temple. She loved to travel, doing puzzles, sewing, making quilts, crocheted many afghans and making fresh baked bread for the new young mothers in the neighborhood. We want to thank Hospice of Utah for their love and care they gave to Grace in her last days.
She was a loving mother of three children: sons Charles J. Eckhardt (Betty June deceased) of Salt Lake City, Ronald L.L. Eckhardt (LaRaine later divorced) Provo, Utah and daughter Liahona Eckhardt of West Jordan Utah. Four grandsons, five granddaughters, great grandsons and great granddaughters. Proceeded in death by her parents, husband, five half brothers, and two sisters. Mother, we may not see you for a while but we know your spirit and love is near. Our memories of you and your smile remain in our hearts.
