Gayle Staples Davis

January 5, 1954 — August 18, 2024

Centerville

Gayle Staples Davis was unexpectedly called back to her heavenly home on August 18, 2024, at the young age of 70. It was during a beautiful summer thunderstorm that she took her last breath, surrounded by her loving family.

LIFE

Gayle was born January 5, 1954, at Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake City to Ellen Marie Amtoft and Marion Earl Staples, Jr. Growing up in Woods Cross, UT, she shared a loving home with three siblings, Marilyn, Barbara, and James (Jim). She attended West Bountiful Elementary, Bountiful Junior High, and Viewmont High Schools. Gayle was social and well-liked in school. She held academic roles throughout her school years, including student body vice president. She cherished many long relationships from those school days throughout her life.

On November 25, 1972, Gayle Staples married Kent Michael Tingey in Bountiful, Utah. They were blessed with two wonderful sons: Cody Ryan Tingey and Camron Lane Tingey. As a mother and grandmother, she was amazing in every way! This was evident as she was called “mom” or “grandma” by every youth fortunate enough to know her.

On a blessed day in late December, while at work, the dapper and dashing young Scott Davis came through her line and asked her out. She said yes. Gayle Staples married Scott Arval Davis on September 25, 1993. They blended their families together to add two more sons, Brock Scott Davis and Bradley K Cole Davis. Gayle and Scott were later sealed in the Bountiful Utah Temple on October 3, 2008. This is something she held near and dear to her heart as she knew the importance of Eternal Families.

Gayle called Centerville her home for the majority of her life. She loved her work as a grocery store clerk in Centerville for 35 years. There were many Centerville residents, family and friends that waited through her long lines to be checked out by her and touched by her smile and love, if only for a minute. Gayle had a way to make each and every person feel special.

Gayle served in many capacities within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where she touched the lives of many with her love of the gospel and favored them with her many treats and talents.

Anything outdoors appealed to Gayle. She loved meticulously tending to her garden and bottled the best salsa and dill pickles around. Her favorite outdoor adventures typically involved camping, fishing, horseback riding, and riding with Scott on their ATVs. She loved bagpipes, summer rains, snow, CHRISTMAS, but really, all holidays. She especially loved her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and grand pups. Gayle held the best barbecues and took joy in feeding people. Her food was always prepared with love, and her portions seemed to coincide with the amount of love she was serving up! Her special touch was one of a kind.

Gayle saw beauty in everything and was an amazing photographer. She loved taking pictures of her family, friends, and God’s creation. Gayle’s talents knew no bounds. She specialized in custom birthday cakes and dolls and loved to adorn her children and grandchildren with the most elaborate and beautiful costumes. However, Christmas tree decorating was her specialty! Gayle’s Christmas trees were always breathtakingly beautiful, and everyone loved to enjoy them.

During her time here on Earth she instilled her love of the Holidays, family, and gathering to share our love and appreciation for one another. We will forever carry on her traditions, loving spirit, and her pure love of Christ. We look forward to sharing these special moments with her when we meet again. Gayle will be deeply missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing her.
