Our loving father, Gary Steven Leavitt, 62, died peacefully after a courageous fight with Melanoma at home surrounded by all of his loved ones on March 12, 2016, in Kaysville, Utah.
He was born on December 20, 1953, in Delta, Utah to Arthur Rowell Leavitt and Ruth (Workman) Leavitt.
He served an LDS mission in Southern Germany from 1973 -1975 and has always remembered those years fondly and always maintained a love for the German culture.
He was married to Ladonna DeMill for 35 years and had five freaking awesome children.
Gary was a talented trumpet player, having played in the BYU marching band, and even during Richard Nixon’s inauguration.
He excelled academically, receiving an accounting degree from Westminster College in 1982 and went on to have a successful career as a CPA and accountant.
Gary served his community and church in many different functions, including being a young men’s group leader, teaching Sunday school, and coaching youth sports.
Gary’s children and grandchildren were the light of his life. He lived for his family in every way.
He always found time to coach soccer (#gohighvoltage) and basketball, attend all of his kid’s activities (#evenlongdancerecitals), and take his family on memorable vacations and to soccer tournaments all over the Western United States.
Later in life, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Even when he became sick, he still found great joy in making them smile and feel special. Gary found his ray of Sunshine when he met and later married Debra (Sunshine) Owens in October 2011. They lived together happily in beautiful Sheridan, Wyoming. Sunshine lovingly took care of our father through his fight with Melanoma.
Gary is survived by his wife (Sunshine), five children, Justin/aka Rooster (Jennifer), Brandon/aka Branny Bug (Nicole), Travis/aka Snakels (Katie), Stacy/aka Precial, and Jordan / aka Do do, seven grandchildren (and two on the way), his four siblings, and, of course, the Missers. Gary is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Rowell and Ruth Leavitt.
