Detective Gary A Potter, Retired

July 31st, 2024, Gary A. Potter, a man who spent most of his adult life serving and protecting his country and community, passed away at the age of 69.

 Born in Cedar Rapids,IA he moved at a young age to Murray, UT where he fell in love with baseball, football and the outdoors. He attended Murray High School playing baseball and football before enlisting in the Army.

Upon being honorably discharged, Gary joined the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office where he spent 23 years serving as a Deputy and Detective.

Gary’s passion for sports and the outdoors never ended. He volunteered his time as a baseball and football coach and when not on the field, you could find him fishing and hunting with those closest to him.

Survived by many loved ones, Gary will be missed by all those whose lives he touched.

Graveside Services will be held Wednesday, August 14th at 10:00 AM at Memorial Redwood Mortuary and Cemetery – 6500 S. Redwood Rd., West Jordan, UT 84123
