Gary Dipo

November 15, 1946 — April 15, 2016

Gary Lynn Dipo – 1946-2016 “Humble and Kind”
The world has lost a great man.  Our loving and devoted Husband, Father and Grandfather, Gary Lynn Dipo, passed away on April 15th, 2016, at the age of 69, surrounded by loved ones.  The effects of pneumonia and H1N1 were too much for his body to overcome.  “Life was no longer dear and sweet to him.”
He was born November 15th, 1946, at his home in South Salt Lake, Utah, to George Lincoln and Dora Helen Dipo.  He married the love of his life, Sandra Louise Ross on August 6th, 1971 in the Salt Lake Temple. They celebrated 44 years of marriage together.
He grew up in South Salt Lake and graduated from Granite High School in 1965.  He attended the University of Utah, graduating from their school of Pharmacy in 1971.  While in college, he joined the Air National Guard of Utah in the 151st airborne division and was honorably discharged in June of 1971.  Following graduation, he started his career as a Pharmacist with Skaggs Alpha Beta and retired from Rite Aid Pharmacy in 2011.  His entire career was spent helping numerous people in the Holladay area where he made many lifelong friends.
He was a faithful and devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He served in numerous callings as a member of the Butler 33rd ward in Cottonwood Heights, quietly doing what he was asked to do without complaint.  He was a very quiet and humble man and kind to anyone he met.  His testimony of the Savior was shown through his quiet example.
Dad loved to spend time with his family.  He loved loading us all up in the car and driving to “parts unknown” nearly every Saturday morning.  Most summer vacations were spent in St. George as we spent time swimming or hiking in Snow Canyon.  He also loved hiking in and around Zions National Park.    Dad was an avid hunter and enjoyed the outdoors.  He would always tell us stories about the hunting trips that his family would take to Chalk Creek and the fun times that he enjoyed there.  He loved to hike and in his later years he loved collecting the golf balls that he found hiking near Mountain Dell golf course.
Dad, thank you for your love, kindness, sacrifices, devotion, testimony and example.  You taught us the importance of hard work, getting an education, serving an honorable mission and getting married in the right place.  You truly lived a life worthy of praise.  We have no doubt that the reunion with loved ones on the other side was as joyous an occasion as there has ever been.
He is survived by his sweetheart and loving wife of 44 years, Sandra Louise Dipo; five children, Jason (Christy) Dipo, Nathan (Amanda) Dipo, Bryan (Rochelle) Dipo, Dustin (Taryn) Dipo and Erika (Cameron) Bigelow.  He is also survived by a posterity of 10 grandchildren – Brielle, Mikaylie, Lincoln, Noah, Eloise, Kenadie, Avery, Garrett, Hazel and Dallin.  He is additionally survived by his five siblings – Doreen (Richard) Carlson, Thomas (Darlene) Dipo, Grant (Dot) Dipo, Judy (Mike) Hurdsman and Dennis (Diane) Dipo.  Preceded in death by his parents George and Dora Dipo and brother-in-law Richard Carlson.
“For the faithful, our finest hours are sometimes during or just following our darkest hours.” – Neal A. Maxwell
“Remember me with smiles and laughter, for that’s the way I’ll remember you all.  If you can only remember me with tears, then don’t remember me at all.”
“The true measure of a man is not found in what he has obtained in worldly possessions but in the posterity that he leaves behind.”
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, April 20th, from 6-8pm at the Mountain View Memorial cemetery, 3115 E. 7800 S.
