Gary Allan Brookins Sr.

Gary Allan Brookins Sr. aka Johnny Montana, age 89, passed away on January 15, 2021 in Kearns, Utah, surrounded by his family. He was born on March 28, 1931 in Butte, Montana to Robert and Elizabeth Brookins. He married Patricia Ann Kirk on March 28, 1948.
Gary worked in Montana on cattle ranches as a young man. He was a hard rock underground miner, truck driver (OTR/Local). In his early days, he held a position of Captain with the Big Butte Volunteer Fire dept. and the president of Utah Citizen Band Radio Club. He retired as a heavy mobile equipment mechanic from Tooele Army Depot. Gary enjoyed fishing, camping, and traveling the country from one end to the other with his wife. He greatly enjoyed Cowboy Action Shooting with his sons, making many friends and meeting western enthusiasts.
Gary is survived by his sons, Gary A Brookins Jr, Douglas Craig (Cyndi) Brookins, and daughter Karen (Lee) Nelson, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren totaling 50+.
He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and one sister. His wife of 59 years, Patricia. His daughter, SFC U.S Army(Ret), Donna M. Harrison.
An evening viewing will be held on Thursday, January 21, 2021 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Memorial Murray Mortuary 5850 South 900 East, Murray, Utah 84121. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 22, 2021 at 9:30 AM at Memorial Redwood Mortuary and Cemetery 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah 84123. Interment to follow the services at Valley View Memorial Park 4335 West 4100 South, West Valley City, UT 84120.
