Garry Lee Carsten, 67 was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday January 20th, 2018 while at home in Kearns, Utah. Garry was born July 6th, 1950 in Platte, SD to Guy & Jeannie (Greene) Carsten. They lived on a farm until they moved to Lead, SD in 1957, where he attended the rest of his school years. He went to auto mechanic school in Denver, Co.
He served in the U.S. Army. His military base was at Ft. Ord, CA. While in the Army, Garry was stationed in Hawaii, Okanowa, Philippines, Germany, & Vietnam. Garry has lived in numerous states such as SD, ND, CO, WY, WA, CA, NV, AZ, TX, and UT.
During his life Garry worked at the Homestake Gold Mine in Lead,SD. He was an auto mechanic, a tow truck driver, and a cross country truck driver.
While living in the Salt Lake City, UT area he worked at Carastar & Aspen Mill Works.
Garry’s favorite hobbies were deer and pheasant hunting, fishing, bowling on leagues and bowling with family and friends. Garry raced a stock car at the Blacks Hills Speedway for a time. His favorite past-times were watching Nascar racing with his favorite racer #24, Jeff Gordan. He was also an Avid Fortune Hunter at numerous Casinos.
Garry had four children, three daughters & one son.
Survivors include: Wife, Judy Johnson. of Kearns, UT. Daughter, Alexa (Terry) Pierce, of Rapid City,SD. Her children are Samantha, Jamie, & Stephanie. Daughter, Heather (Bill) Chesney, of Littleton, CO. Her children are Todd Jr., Shawndor, Rex,& Angela. Daughter, Trisha Marquiss of Boerne, TX. Her children are Kasey, Ethan, Megan, & Bentley. Son, Garry (Amber) Scroggs of San Antonio, TX. His children are Austin & Halie. He is also survived by two brothers, Guy Carsten II of Rapid City, SD, Gene (Lisa) Carsten of Rapid City, SD. One sister, Lynnette (Rich) Woods of Lincoln, NE. One step sister Bernita (Myron) Pound of Rapid City, SD.
Garry has five Great Grandchildren: Miracle, Halie, Dameon, Serenity, & Harmony.
He was preceded in death by his parents Guy Carsten Sr. & Jeannie Carsten, & two Grandsons; Jamie Adam Carsten, & Kasey Aaron Hudson.
Final burial will be at the National Cemetery in Sturgis, South Dakota.
