Fred Tominaga

Murray Memorial Mortuary Obituary:
Fred Tominaga passed away peacefully on April 4, 2022 at Alta View Hospital in Sandy, Utah at the age of 92.
Fred was the son of Daijiro and Nobu Tominaga, born in Shelley, Idaho. He was the youngest of 6 brothers and 3 sisters. Fred graduated from Thomas High School, Blackfoot, Idaho in 1948. He moved to Salt Lake City, Utah where he met his wife, Betsy. On November 28, 1959, they were married in Wahiawa, Oahu, Hawaii before returning to Salt Lake City to raise their own family.
Fred was an active person and always kept busy. He led a full life serving the U.S. Air Force from 1950-1954 and the Air National Guard from 1955-1979. He retired from the military, then worked 18 years for the Salt Lake City School District.
During his lifetime, Fred had a love for family, a passion for sports and enjoyed the outdoors. Fred could be found spending time talking with others about sports, playing cards, bowling, fishing or hunting. Later in life, he stayed active playing cards while being an avid Utah Jazz and University of Utah sports fan. Fred was great to be around, had a gregarious nature, a positive attitude towards life and was always seen smiling.
Fred is preceded in death by his parents, eight siblings and son Bryon Tominaga. He is survived by his wife Betsy Tominaga, his sons Dale and Ryan Tominaga, his daughter Lori Zurmuhle (Paul Zurmuhle), his grandchildren Zachary and Maiya Zurmuhle and his sister Susie Sato.
A private ceremony will be held for immediate family members. A graveside memorial for extended family and friends will be held in late June 2022 for the interment of ashes. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in the memory of Fred Tominaga to the VA Salt Lake City Health Care System https://www.cdceportal.va.gov/donate_online/. Select: Utah, Facility: Salt Lake City VA HSC (660), Program for Donation: General Purpose Hospitalized Veterans. The Veterans Health Care System does so much to help our veterans live active lives.
