Franco Aurelio Contreras Ortega

Franco Aurelio Contreras Ortega passed away on February 10, 2020 surrounded by his family and closest friends. He was born on November 13, 1943 in Quepos, Costa Rica to Francisco Contreras and Florencia Ortega Ortega. He married Maria Carmen on March 6, 1970 in Costa Rica, and together they migrated to the United States. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on November 27, 1973. Together they raised their seven children in New York and Utah.
He formally debuted at the age of 20 as an Opera Singer in Costa Rica, and his incredible voice was highly regarded by the Costa Rican media. He was regarded as a tenor, with an incredible vocal tone, whose quality would outstand the tests of time – until this day. This talent resonated throughout the rest of his life and touched those around him. He was regarded as a very generous vocal coach whose passion was to share his knowledge with the world.
His generosity led him towards a more spiritual path as he became a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was later ordained as a member of the Quorum of the Seventy in New York. One of his biggest passions was missionary work. Franco led an exemplarily life of service and charity.
He is survived by his loving wife, Maria del Carmen, children: Jerusalem (John) Damiani, Franko Jacob Contreras, Sion Leonora (Israel) Jimenez, Ephraim Ben Joseph (Jenna) Contreras, Benjamin Eleazar Contreras, David Ben Joseph Contreras, Evis Florencia (Quintan) Stevens, grandchildren: Talavion, Antonio, Aliel, Maria, Aaliyah, Leila, Que, siblings: Manuel Contreras, and Patricia Contreras.
He is preceded in death by son: Franko Isaac, three baby sisters and his parents.
