Francis “Dee” Roberge (FDR) passed away on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at the age of 84.  Dee was born on May 27, 1933 in San Pedro, California to Ernest F. Roberge and Lorna R. Purdie-Roberge.
Dee married his sweetheart, Lillian Dee Cook of Benjamin, UT on July 7, 1956, in Pensacola, Florida where he was stationed during Navy flight training, and was later sealed to Lillian and their three daughters in the Mt. Timpanogos Temple.
Dee is survived by his sister, Nancy Roberge, daughters, Tonda Ostler and Ursula (Jon) Wayman, 8 grandchildren: Stephanie (Ben) Gunn, Michelle (Khyl) Shumway, Tiffany (Cody) Parker, Kristine Friis, Heather (Kellen) Pead, Holly Ostler, Steven and Sasha Wayman, along with 17 great grandchildren.
Dee was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian, daughter, Marcie Friis, grandsons Nathan and Christopher Ostler, and his great grandson Rockwell Shumway.
Dee and Lillian lived in Pensacola, FL / Corpus Christie, TX / Seaside and Armona, CA / Virginia Beach, VA / Salt Lake City, UT and last resided in Highland, UT.
During Dee’s early childhood, his father was a U.S. Navy recruiter which gave Dee and his sister Nancy the opportunity to grow up in several small towns within the 11th Naval District of the U.S. (Bremerton, WA / Twin Falls, ID / Cedar City and Payson, UT).
Dee graduated from South High School in Salt Lake City, UT, where he was a Cadet Lieutenant in the R.O.T.C. and was Drill Team Commander his senior year.  He graduated from the University of Utah and was commissioned as an Ensign in the U.S. Navy.  He was accepted into the Navy Pilot Training Program at Corpus Christi, TX and further trained at Pensacola, FL.  His first assignment was aboard the Aircraft Carrier USS Intrepid.  Dee flew 226 missions over Viet Nam in A4E Skyhawks and retired as a U.S. Navy Commander on March 31, 1978.  He was a 2009 Honoree at the University of Utah’s Veteran’s Day Commemoration.
Dee learned to downhill ski in high school and loved skiing at Alta Ski Resort.  He was an avid skydiver, swimmer and diver.  He also loved to snowmobile, hike, sail, camp, waterski, and loved model trains.  As a skydiver Dee helped start the Navy’s Competitive Skydiving Team.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 23, 2017 at Mountain View Memorial Estates, 3115 East 7800 South (Bengal Blvd.), Cottonwood Heights, UT, interment to follow at the same location. A viewing for family and friends will be held an hour prior to the service starting at 10 a.m.
