MADISON – Frances B. Mace, age 97, passed away peacefully in her sleep, listening to Christmas carols with her family by her side on December 24, 2014. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on June 21, 1917, the daughter of Gilbert and Gladys Bennett. She married Col. Wallace P. Mace in Reno, Nev., on January 29, 1943. She volunteered with the USO during WWII and was a contributing member of the Officers’ Wives’ Club during her husband’s Air Force career. Fran graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Education, but gave up her teaching to support her husband’s military career. Fran and Wally were members of the Maple Bluff Country Club for 40 years, and avid hockey fans, holding UW Hockey season tickets. She was a member of the Madison Stake of the Church of the Latter Day Saints, a champion bridge player, golfed and bowled into her late 70s, and loved taking daily walks, where she always looked forward to visiting with those she met along the way. She is survived by her children, Gilbert (Elizabeth) Mace, Stephen (Sandy) Mace, and Sue (Neil) Kirst; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren with one due to arrive shortly; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Col. Wallace Mace; her parents; and siblings, Helen (John) Willard, Fred Harris (Elaine) Bennett, and Robert (Jenny) Bennett. In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to the Alzheimer’s Association, Agrace HospiceCare, Inc., or Attic Angel Place. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2015 at the Mountain View Memorial Mortuary and Cemetery, 3115 E. 7800 S. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the funeral. Fran will be interred with the love of her life, Wally.
