Our beloved mother and grandmother, 97, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2015. She was born April 10, 1917 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the fifth of eight children, born to Elbert and Esther Lunnen.
Frances grew up in Salt Lake City during the great depression. She married Milton G. Hooton on September 20, 1935. After starting their family in Salt Lake, Milton went to work in Portland, Oregon as a welder in the shipyards during WWII. Following the end of the war, they moved back to the Salt Lake Valley.
Following the death of her husband in 1956, she met and married E. Reynolds Baxter on December 8, 1966, and moved to Union, Oregon, where three stepchildren and their families came into her life. Following her second husband’s death in 1996, she moved to Sandy, Utah where she resided with her daughter until the time of her death.
Frances loved her role as homemaker and serving those around her. She loved reading, gardening, canning, feeding the birds and being a grandmother. She was a member of the LDS Church and served in many callings, including Primary, Relief Society and Young Womens. She especially excelled in the area of drama and wrote many roadshows scripts. She is also a published poet.
She is survived by her son, Gordon Lamont (Charlotte) Hooton, and her daughter Judy (Reiner) Prawitt, step-children Colleen (Denny) Langford, Farel (Linda) Baxter, 37 grandchildren, 71 great grandchildren, and 16 great, great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by both of her husbands, her son Craig (Tamra) Hooton, and stepdaughter Betty (Ron) Dunham, and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 6, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. in the Canyon View Stake Center, 9119 South 1300 East in Sandy, Utah. A viewing will be held prior to the service beginning at 9:00 a.m. Interment will be at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. 10600 S. in Sandy.
