Florence Wood

August 7, 1930 — May 4, 2015

After a long and unfair struggle with dementia, it is with great sadness we must announce our beloved sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother Darlene Wood lost her battle on May 4, 2015.
She was born Florence Darlene Lester on August 7, 1930. She was married to the love of her life Robert C. Wood on March 23, 1951, for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple. During this union, she was blessed with three children: Robert Gale Wood, Jack Lester Wood and William B. Wood. They in turn blessed her with eleven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. For many years, Darlene was deeply involved with her community, giving countless hours in service to her church, swimming organizations, the scouting program and other activities. Her efforts touched the lives of innumerable people who were fortunate enough to have interaction with her. Darlene will be missed by all. She is survived by her husband Robert C. Wood, two sisters, Norma (Richard Gilbert) and Mary (Wayne Johnson), two sons, Jack L. Wood (Colleen) and William B. Wood (Dawn), and her grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death but welcomed in heaven by her parents, Joseph Huntsman Lester and Florence Irene Landis, sister Barbra (David Wright), brother Joe Lester (Dorthy), and her eldest son, Robert Gale Wood.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, May 16, 2015 at the Riverside 2nd Ward, 464 West Germania Avenue (5090 South), Murray, with viewing from 6-8:00 pm on Friday evening at Redwood Memorial Mortuary, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, and one hour prior at the church.
