Florence Leggroan Lawrence

Florence Leggroan “Honey” Lawrence passed away peacefully at home on June 11, 2022 at the age of 100. Florence was born January 3rd, 1922 in Murray, Utah to Lucy Cecelia Bankhead and Benjamin Franklin Leggroan. She was the middle child. Florence grew up in the west side of Salt Lake City. She was a graduate of West High School.
She married Arthur Charles Lawrence on April 26, 1942, and from this union came three children. Around 1950 they bought a house on Post Street where she lived until her passing. Her husband passed away May 27, 1968.
Florence worked for 19 years with the State of Utah’s Department of Health and Welfare as a data analyst. She retired from there in January 1992. She was active in her church, Central SDA, where she taught Sabbath School, was superintendent and eventually, elder. She was also active in the community; YWCA, Altrusa, but mostly, in the Salt Lake NAACP where she was secretary for many years along side her best friend, Alberta Henry. Florence also enjoyed doing ceramics. She won many awards and we have many of her “Rewards,” in our homes. Her greatest reward was her family and her faith; both were her foundation.
She leaves behind to honor and cherish her memory, Her Children; Arthur Charles Lawrence, Judith Anne Williams and Ricki Scott (Nancy) Lawrence, Grandchildren; Tiffany (Redd) Sawyer, Derick Lawrence, Aubree Lawrence, Brooke (Keon) Arabi, Autumn Lawrence and Sari Lawrence, Great-Grandchildren; Malik Sawyer, Tawn Sawyer, Elton Lewis III, Dequavion Lewis, Heaven Lewis, Rick Lewis and Rose Lawrence, and Great-Great-Granddaughter, Elena Lewis. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Sisters; Nellie Howell and Wanda Crawford, Brothers; Jack Leggroan and Raymond Leggroan, Daughter-in-law, Cella Lawrence, and Granddaughter, Rickisha Lawrence. She’s the end of those tough “old birds” we often refer about and she’ll be deeply missed.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 23, 2022 at 11:00 AM with a viewing beginning at 10:00 AM. All services will be held at Memorial Redwood Mortuary & Cemetery located at 6500 South Redwood Road in West Jordan, Utah. Interment will immediately follow at the same location.
