Fern Campbell

Fern P. Campbell, age 94, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2015 at her daughter’s home, surrounded by family. Fern was born in 1921 to Frederick Piepgrass and Edyth Boyson Piepgrass in Raymond, Alberta, Canada. She married Rex LeRoy Campbell in 1943 in the Salt Lake Temple. They had three children: Kathleen, Dorothy, and Michael.
Fern was adored by everyone that knew her. Her sweet smile and cheerful countenance could lift spirits and brighten even the darkest room. She was unwavering in her faith as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She held countless church callings throughout her life, spending some of her happiest years alongside her husband Rex as a temple worker in the Jordan River Temple.
Fern was generous, charitable, and eternally optimistic–even in the face of great adversity. The grace with which she approached life’s challenges was truly Christlike.¬¬ She enjoyed nothing more than to be surrounded by her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She sang to them, read stories, baked cookies, and listened intently. Fern was also a fierce patriot, a lover of history, and an avid reader—sometimes finishing one or two books a day. She was particularly passionate about genealogy and has left a treasure trove of records and journals of her own family history. To know her was to love her and she will be deeply missed.
Fern is survived by her daughter Dorothy (Jack) Fritz, sisters Marie and Eunice, two grandchildren Tiffany Simmons and Jake (Karolee) Fritz, eleven great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Michael, daughter Kathleen (Dan) Sullivan, and grandson Travis Peterson.
Viewing will be held Monday, October 5th, from 6 – 8 pm at Memorial Mortuary, 5850 South 900 East. Funeral services will be held at Memorial Mortuary on Tuesday, October 6th at 11:00 am. Viewing prior to services 10:00 – 10:45 am. Interment will be at Mountain View Cemetery.
