Our beloved Mother, Faye Doris Hurst, returned to her Heavenly home on June 18, 2017. We are sure there was a happy reunion on the other side with the many loved ones that have gone before her. Faye was born in Salina, Utah on March 4, 1938 to Lloyd and Doris Scow. Faye is the oldest of 8 children. Faye grew up in Mayfield where she enjoyed helping her father run the general store. Her most treasured memory of the store was assisting children with the penny candy. After graduating from Manti High she moved to Salt Lake City to work where she met and married Larry Hurst (later divorced). Faye and Larry fostered more than a dozen children over the years and eventually adopted two of those lucky foster kids, Ray & David. A few years later she was excited with the opportunity to adopt a newborn baby, Terry. It was later in life when Faye was able to conceive a child on her own, but was heartbroken when her sweet Doris was still-born. At age 40 Faye gave birth a second time to her daughter, Kaylene. Faye had a sweetheart that she loved for over 20 years, Orland Halterman, and she loved and adored all her children including his.
Faye loved people and parties and would use any excuse to have a get together. She was famous for her potato salad and her raisin-filled cookies! She was a kid at heart and loved holidays. You’d find her playing ball with the kids, eating a donut from a string, reading to them, or anything her precious grandkids wanted to do. She cherished time spent with her loved ones. Faye did not discriminate, if you weren’t her family, she made you feel like you were. She was a very accepting, generous and charitable lady. She taught us all unconditional love and helped each of us in so many ways. She made friends wherever she went and always had a smile on her face. Faye had a knack for making the best of every situation and was a hard worker.
Faye loved her job at the Newspaper Agency taking classified ads. She became friends with her clients and co-workers. Besides working for NAC, Faye also held positions at Sears and Trane Company. She fulfilled her lifelong dream of going to Hawaii after retirement.
Faye is survived by: her children, David, Terry, Kaylene (Brad) Yeates; daughters-in-law: Ann Hurst-Skinner, Jeanette Hurst, and Ruby Chacon; grandchildren: Rashelle, Brandon, Nicole, Orion, Ian, Shelby, Madeline, Cordelia & Makenzie; great-grandchildren: Phisher, Zhoe, Tucker, Riglee, Ryker and Mia; siblings: Connie Quick, Marvin (Beverly) Scow, Darlene Brotherson; half-siblings: Butch (Rebecca) Stein, Julene (Richard) Shelley, Janice Dotson, Lynn Scow; step-Mother, Irene Ritz. And many other step-children and grand-children, as well as several nieces and nephews of whom she loved dearly.
Preceded in death by her parents, children Ray & Doris, and sweetheart, Orland.
