Fay D. Manzanares

May 10, 1929 — December 11, 2020

Fay D. Manzanares transitioned home to her heavenly Father on December 11, 2020, at 5:55pm in Salt Lake City, Utah, at age 91. She was born on May 10, 1929, in La Madera, New Mexico, to Adolfo and Genara Martinez. She married Isaac O. Manzanares in 1946 and together they had 13 children.
Fay was a devout Catholic and a woman of incredible faith. She prayed the rosary daily and was a parishioner of the Cathedral of the Madeleine.
Fay was a master home decorator and loved interior design. Her favorite furniture store was Sterling Furniture in Sugarhouse. She was a fantastic cook and her family loved her enchiladas, tortillas and biscochitos at Christmas. Fay ran a tight ship and kept an immaculately clean house. All knew to remove shoes and wash hands as soon as you entered her home. Fay was a supreme fashionista, always dressed to the nines and was a big fan of JC Penney.
Fay had a green thumb and her home was filled with beautifully lush plants and flowers. She referred to her plants as her babies and would speak lovingly to them daily.
Fay lived at the Romney Plaza, across the street from Liberty Park, for 15 years and will be recognized by the Romney Board of Directors for her long-time residence. Her balcony faced the park and she enjoyed her front-row view for various holiday events and parades over the years. Fay loved staying active and regularly walked laps around Liberty Park.
Fay enjoyed being productive and worked annually as an employee of the Utah State Fair. She quickly became known for her meticulous cleaning and organization and was regularly requested to work in the Fine Arts Building, amongst beautiful paintings and works of art.
Fay was also an active volunteer at St. Vincent de Paul Soup Kitchen, preparing lunch on Fridays for the homeless and was featured in the Salt Lake City Tribune for her contributions.
Fay loved trips to Wendover, Mexican music, dancing, and enjoyed the occasional shot of tequila and glass of Chardonnay. Fay loved hummingbirds and her family will lovingly recall her memory whenever they see one.
Fay leaves an incredible family legacy of 37 grandchildren, 64 great-grandchildren, and 25 great-great-grandchildren bringing the total to 126 members of extended family (128 by the end of December). She touched the lives of everyone in her family, and was often not just a grandmother, but a loving and caring mother to all.
Fay is preceded in death by her husband, Isaac; her children Mercy, Katherin, and John; her grandchildren Brandy, Shaun, and Tracee; and her great-grandchildren Kenny and Dashelle. She is survived by one sister, Carmen Amaya, and ten children: Manuel Manzanares, Patricia Rios, Walter Manzanares (Yvonne), Katherin De Leon (Joaquin), Madalyn Manzanares, Lorraine Miller, Shirley Leyba (Matt), Jeanine Turner (James), Nancy Lawrence (Rick), and Natalie Manzanares.
