Our loving mother and grandmother, Evva Jean Burnham, 82 , died on June 23, 2016 at Legacy House of South Jordan. She was born February 19, 1934 to Eunice Simpson and Leland C. Burnham. She was an active member of the LDS Church. She graduated from Brigham Young University after completing an internship in Washington, DC, and then realized her dream of going to medical school. A pioneer for women in medicine, she received her MD in 1962 from Bowman Gray School of Medicine (now Wake Forest School of Medicine) in North Carolina. Returning to Utah she completed her residency in Salt Lake City and worked as an anesthesiologist at LDS Hospital, Shriners Hospital, and Salt Lake Surgical Center until she retired in 1995. Her greatest love was her five children Michael, Nancy, Sean, Brian, and Anthony, and her grandchildren Jasel, Kellie, Holli, Madeleine, Samuel, and Faith. She is also survived by her sister Joan and brother Terry Lee. She was greatly admired for her independent spirit, lively mind, and generosity. Preceded in death by her sister Barbara, sister-in-law Judy, and nephew Kevin. A private family graveside service will be held. Interment Mountain View Memorial, 3115 E 7800 S.
