Our loving mother and wife, Evonne Thomas DeHaan, made a peaceful return to her Heavenly Father on August 25th at the age of 80. She was born on November 9, 1941 to Lloyd Midgley Thomas and Reva Morley Thomas in Salt Lake City, Utah. Evonne was the youngest of their three daughters.
Evonne loved her role as the youngest child in the Thomas household. The Thomas’ are a very close family, and we all share memories of Sunday dinners in our youth- all cramped together into the tiny Thomas home, watching Lawrence Welk, The Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom show and, when fortunate, a Disney television special!
Evonne attended Highland High School where she met her sweetheart Eldon John DeHaan and graduated in 1959. After High School, Eldon left to serve a 2 ½ year LDS mission to Holland. Evonne remained close to Eldon during his service in Holland and upon his return, they were engaged. They were married on February 14th 1964. During their marriage they lived in Olympia, Washington and Salt Lake City, Utah and had 4 children (Chris, Michael, Jodi and Melinda).
Evonne worked as a Production Manager and Captain for Correctional Industries supervising three inmate operations. Upon retirement Evonne and Eldon served together on a mission to the LDS Church’s Head Quarters in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Evonne was a fiercely devoted mother and wife. If there were barriers in life, Evonne was not afraid to step in and show us how to address and tackle them. She didn’t ever give up helping us solve life’s problems. She had a passionate love for any animal that came across her path and took many in. She was known for her love of plants and flowers and had a natural green thumb. Evonne and Eldon gained fame around the neighborhood for their gardening abilities and for their beautiful yard.
Evonne was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She held a strong testimony of her Savior, His gift of the atonement for all and how His grace blessed her. Evonne found comfort in her knowledge that families are forever and despite the limitations of mortality, incredible reunions do occur on the other side of the veil. We know Evonne is now free of mortal constraints and resides in the arms of her family and Redeemer.
Evonne is survived in passing by her loving and devoted husband Eldon J. DeHaan, children: Christopher J. (Emily) DeHaan, Michael L. DeHaan, Jodi L. Larson (Eric Knudsen), Melinda A.(Sean) Bullock; grandchildren: Forrest DeHaan, Zoe DeHaan, Cole DeHaan, Tess DeHaan, Alex Larson, Courtney (Taylor) Bengry, Kilee Bullock, Aspyn (Carson) Stagg, Brinley Bullock and Teigen Bullock; three great grandchildren: Myles, Sawyer and Ayla Bengry along with many dear cousins, nieces, nephews and close friends.
