Evelyn Salter Black

Surrounded by her family, Evelyn Salter Black of Sandy Utah passed away Thursday June 16, 2022.  Evelyn was born December 30, 1939 in Kanab, Utah. Growing up in Mt. Carmel Utah, Evelyn worked in their family-owned Sugar-Knoll Café. She learned the value of hard work from her parents and followed in her mother’s footsteps cooking delicious meals and desserts for her family. Her country strong work ethic prepared her to provide love and service to her family. She loved gardening, sewing, baking, and playing with her grandchildren creating tea parties and BBQ’s. Evelyn was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had a strong testimony of the Savior and served Him in a variety of callings in Relief Society, Primary and Young Women’s. She was always ministering to others.
She was a devoted daughter of Tharon and Kathleen Salter and kind sister to Barbara Carroll (Norman), Dennis Salter (Verda) and Patricia Salter.
After graduating from Valley High School in Orderville, she moved onto her next adventure in Salt Lake City and attended Stevens-Henager College. She earned her associates degree and went on to work as an administrative assistant and various positions including 20 years at Jordan School District.
Evelyn was a beloved wife and married Bruce Lawrence Black in the St. George Temple on September 7, 1963. During their first few years of marriage they lived in Ogden, Salt Lake City, and then moved to Sandy Utah where they have lived since 1974. She was a loving mother of four children Kimberly Eagar, (Drew), Katrina McRae, (Lisa), Bruce Lance Black, (Rachel), and Maralee Samowitz (Bret). Proud Grandmother of Ben, Nikki, Jessica, Alex, Samantha, Eithen, Allie, Aliya, Jocelynn, Cameron, David, and Brandon. Joyful Great-Grandmother to Zoe, Elora and Raelyn.
The viewing will be held on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Crescent South Stake Center, 275 East 10600 South, Sandy, Utah 84070.
The funeral service will follow the viewing from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Burial will be at Lake Hills Cemetery, 10055 South State Street, Sandy, Utah 84070.
