Evan J Anderton passed away peacefully early in the morning on Thursday, February 11, 2016. He was born August 14, 1931 in Cedar View, Utah in Duchesne County to Neil Levi Anderton and Myrtle Marie Nichols. He lived and attended school in Duchesne, Salt Lake City. At Granite High School he made many friends and was very popular with the ladies. He had an older brother whom he looked up to; Donald Anderton~deceased (Bobbie), and an uncle close to Dad’s age, Daniel Anderton~deceased(Elizabeth~deceased).
Dad is a Korean War veteran. He proudly served in the 40th Infantry division in the United States Army. He served 2 years active duty and 6 years in the Army Reserves. He received several honors including The Commendation Ribbon with Medal Pendant for his distinguished and meritorious service.
In 1959 Evan married Joy Coffin and they had a son, Nord Curtis Anderton (Claire-deceased). Dad married Lillie Belle Johnson and had 3 daughters; Sandra Assasnik (Amir-deceased, married Ali Savabi), Kimberlee Eberspacher (Daniel D.) and Holli V. McReynolds (Thomas A.) He later married Levilyn Rubin and had a daughter, Evalee R. Anderton. Dad also had foster children who he loved, like his own, including; Brittany Lee Morton Watkins, Donna Mae Burbank and Charlotte Bekis. He also has a daughter named Veronica.
Dad was a licensed barber at many locations in the valley. He spent most of those years at the Golden West Barber Shop in Holladay. While working here Dad was fortunate to meet and become friends with Arnold Friberg! He enjoyed talking art with him and having Mr. Friberg critique his paintings.
When his children were older Dad was employed by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints working security. Some of his favorite memories and experiences during this time were while he served as a body guard President Spencer W. Kimball and other General Authorities.
He was a wonderful artist and loved to paint oil landscapes. He took oil painting classes at the Pioneer Art Center from Matt Madsen and Mr. Vigos. He was there every Friday night with his bucket of paint supplies and art box. Dad was a member of The Utah Art Association. He showed and sold his art throughout the intermountain west. He loved Basketball and was quick and dexterous. He played on school ward teams. Every Saturday morning he would be up early for practice and to play for several hours with his neighborhood friends. His basketball enjoyment extended to the early professional Utah Basketball team, The Utah Stars. He enjoyed going to their games with his friends and daughters. He loved watching movies with his family and friends and more recently, especially with his youngest daughter, “Evi-Pie”. Dad also enjoyed fishing, growing roses, going out to eat, listening to music, reading Church books, going to the Murray Rec. Center to work out and telling lots of fascinating stories, over, and over and over!
Dad was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a High Priest. Dad served as Sunday School President, with the youth in Mutual, as a Food Storage Specialist and at 84 years old, he enjoyed getting out and doing his calling as a Home Teacher. He enjoyed being with his family, extended family, and numerous friends that he had throughout his life. There are too many to Thank for their help, love and patience that they showered on Evan, but you know who you are and that you are much appreciated.
He is survived by his 6 children, 8 grandchildren, extended family and many dear friends.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at Holladay Cottonwood Mortuary, 4670 South Highland Drive at 1:00 PM. A viewing will begin at 11:30 am at the same location just prior to services. Interment will be at Holladay Memorial Park.Service Information
