Eva Burt

August 13, 1955 — May 10, 2023

Eva Neergaard Burt passed away May 10, 2023 at her home surrounded by friends and family. She was diagnosed with terminal cancer a few months earlier.
Eva was born August 13, 1955 in Kristiansund N. Norway to Asbjorn and Erna Neergaard. She immigrated with her family to Salt Lake City at the age of 7 years old and was promptly enrolled into the 2nd grade without knowing a word of English. Eva quickly learned to speak perfect English, but also remained fluent in Norwegian throughout her life. She grew up in Holladay and graduated from Olympus High in 1973.
On August 7, 1975 Eva married Dennis Burt in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. His career took them to California, then briefly back to SLC, then onto upstate New York, Denver, Colorado and San Antonio, Texas. Their daughter Kirsten was born in Texas just before they returned to Utah. Kirsten also graduated from Olympus High.
Eva instinctively knew how to make a house a home. She had the gift to create beauty with all that she touched. Whether it was a stunning flower arrangement or her natural sense in the way she could put a room together – the end was magical!
Eva never forgot her Norwegian roots. She celebrated the holidays (especially Christmas) with Norwegian customs, decor, and authentic food. She was known for her expertise in the kitchen; and one could count yourself lucky to be invited to share a meal.
She was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served as Relief Society President; among many other callings. Her love for God came shining through with generosity of Spirit, always willing to serve and help. She was sought out for her ability to bring beauty into every project.
Always the loyal friend, she was loved for her witty sense of humor and enjoyed making people laugh. Humble by nature, she kept herself in the background, but will be remembered as a true BRIGHT LIGHT, one of the great ones! She touched the lives of all who crossed her path for the good. Family was everything! Eva had a special bond with her mother Erna, and most precious daughter Kirsten. We find great peace in knowing that once again Eva is reunited with beloved friends and family on the other side, especially her favorite Grandfather that she had to leave as a child in Norway all those years ago.
We will miss her immensely! Eva is survived by her daughter Kirsten, mother-Erna, sister-Astri and brother-Sven. Viewing: Friday, May 19th 5:00-7:00 PM at the LDS Church – 4601 South Chapel Drive (2550 E) Holladay, Utah.
Graveside Service: Saturday, May 20th 1:00 PM at Memorial Holladay Cemetery 4900 S Memory Lane (1990 E) Holladay, Utah.
