Ethel Louise Mace Kasteler

February 3, 1921 — March 26, 2022

Ethel Louise Mace Kasteler was happily invited to graduate to her heavenly home on March 26, 2022.
She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to George Raymond Mace and Ethel Margaret Lewis Mace February 3, 1921. She graduated from West High High School in 1938 and after one year of college she received training at the LDS Hospital to become a registered nurse and obtained her RN in 1942.
She married Fred J. Kasteler on September 15, 1942, in the Salt Lake City Temple. She celebrated 69 years of marriage before he died on February 11, 2011. She began her church service at age fourteen as an assistant organist in the Sunday School. At age sixteen, she was called to be the full-time organist for the Sunday School and to teach the eight year old children. During her life she was a Primary teacher, Primary organist, Primary President, Young Women Instructor and Relief Society organist.
She loved her nursing career and worked as a nurse for LDS Hospital, Cottonwood Hospital and Community Nursing. She retired from nursing at age 64. She and Fred went on a mission to the Northern States Mission from fall 1986 to spring 1988 and joyfully served there. Ethel loved her husband, seven children, and many grandchildren. She loved her sewing, gardening, and baking and especially bread and cakes to give to people she loved.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred J. Kasteler, her parents, a brother, and three sisters.
She is survived by her children, Larry (Jeanne) Kasteler, Ray (Robyn) Kasteler, Scott (Tillie) Kasteler, Louise (Barrett) Hatch, Susan (Jim) Woods, Daniel (Shayne) Kasteler, Diane (Kent) Montgomery, and 26 grandchildren, 70 great grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 4, 2022, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 1925 East Gundersen Lane, Salt Lake City, Utah 84124 at 11:00 AM with a viewing held prior from 10:00 – 10:45 AM. An evening viewing will be held on Sunday, April 3, 2022, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Memorial Redwood Mortuary and Cemetery 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah 84123. Interment will follow the services at Memorial Redwood Cemetery.
We thank all persons who have so graciously cared over our mother: CareGivers who gave hospice care, the loving staff at Pacificia Senior Living at Millcreek, and all those family members who helped watch over mother the last few days of her life.
