Esther Veloy Bird
1934-2016

Our loving and most wonderful mother, Esther Veloy Bird, finished her work on earth on Saturday, April 2, 2016, after a life well lived. She succumbed to cancer at age 82.  We are totally confident that she is thoroughly enjoying her return to her Heavenly Father and the great reunion there with family and friends
Veloy was born on March 7, 1934 in Mountain Home, Utah, the daughter of Philo Taylor Farnsworth and Hazel Thayne. She loved her country life as a child in Mountain Home and attended school in Altamont where she graduated from High School. She married Vern Bird on July 2, 1951 in the Manti Utah LDS Temple.
Veloy’s time on earth could be described as a great treasure hunt; a life full of discovery, creativity, and service, Throughout her life she continued to have the wonder and excitement of a child, the talent of an artist and a heart of pure gold.
Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family and creating gifts to share with them and to make her home and yard more festive.
Her life was characterized by thousands of acts of selfless-giving of both time and handmade creations. She spent countless hours creating beautiful quilts, woven chairs, and other crafts that she loved to give to family, friends and humanitarian causes. She loved spending time in the outdoors, enjoying the hunt for beautiful rocks and looking for tree branches and roots from which to make walking canes.
Veloy is the kind of person who made you feel special and blessed in her presence. She took an interest in everyone and looked for opportunities to be a friend. Her ability to give unconditional love was a hallmark of her life.
She lived a Christ-centered life and her faith in God and His Son was unwavering. She served faithfully in many church callings and touched the lives of countless people. Her kindness, love, testimony, and strength of character will continue to be an inspiration to us all. We thank God for the joyous life of His beautiful daughter.
Veloy was one of eleven children. She was preceded in death by her husband Vern, her parents, and most of her siblings as well as two grandchildren. She is survived by a sister, Leah Bassett, and a brother, Dee (Eileen) Farnsworth, and her four children, Vickie (Lynn) Stanley, Roger (Janet) Bird, Steven (Vickie) Bird, and Randy (Terri) Bird. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren (with one deceased), 34 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
