Ernest Dahle Floyd passed away surrounded by his loving family on Tuesday, June 1 due to complications from Pancreatic Cancer. Ernie was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers. Ernie is survived by his wife (and Hunny Bunny) Myrna; daughters Natalie and Candice (Chris); son Tommy (Lucinda); and grandchildren Caden (Mariah), Paizlie, Zoey, TJ, Bella, Peyton, and Olivia. Ernie was the best Papa we could ask for!
Ernie was born on May 16, 1947 and raised in Sugar House, Utah. His love of sports started at a young age. Ernie played softball for the Salt Lake County recreation league. Later, he coached a little league softball team where he was everyone’s favorite. Shhh…don’t tell the other coaches. After high school, Ernie joined the Utah National Guard. He served his country for 4 years.
Ernie was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in several bishoprics. Professionally, Ernie worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for 42 years as a Machinist and Trainer. After retirement, Ernie worked as a Lunchroom Coordinator for 10 years at Heartland Elementary. Running into one of Ernie’s students at the grocery store never got old! Those kids loved him (notice a trend?)!
Ernie was loved by all for his easy-going attitude, clever comments, and willingness to help. Ernie loved Diet Pepsi, working in the yard, new cars, anything to do with trains, staying home, the University of Utah, and nodding in agreement (even if he wasn’t sure what he was agreeing to).
The family would like to thank their friends the Olsens and Dalbys, and the attending nurses and physicians at Jordan Valley Medical Center.
A viewing will be held on Fri., June 4 at Redwood Memorial (6500 S. Redwood Rd. Taylorsville, UT 84123) from 6-8 pm. A graveside service will be held the following day at Redwood Memorial at 2 pm.
For those unable to attend the services, Memorial Mortuaries and Cemeteries are offering a livestreaming of the funeral service on Zoom.
