Emily Joan Crossen

July 18, 1932 — May 21, 2019

Our beloved mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend Emily Joan Crossen of Bountiful Utah died the 21st of May at Lake View Hospital.
Joan was born on July 18, 1932 in Provo, Utah to Leland Stanford Patten and Ellen Murdock Patten. She is survived by her children Nancy (Steve) McLain, David (Janet) Crossen, LeAnne (David) Deardeuff, Carole Crossen, Douglas (Bonni) Crossen, Darrold Crossen, her brother David Patten and sister Linda (Dale) Muhlestein. Joan kept in close contact with her brothers and sisters throughout her life. The Leland Stanford Patten Family clan is remembered fondly by the Patten grandchildren. Joan loved to brag about her 23 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren.
Joan was raised on a fruit farm in Provo, Utah. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Orem, Utah. She attended Utah State University on a scholarship she won from 4H. At Utah State she met Manford Wayne Crossen. They married June 6, 1950 in the Logan, Utah Temple. Joan loved reading. Her interests in books were many and varied. She loved cooking and  kept multiple stenograph booklets full of recipes she had copied in shorthand. She would refer to these often as she looked for new recipes to cook. Joan loved sewing. Her children received home sewn dolls, stuffed animals, doll clothes, and clothing for Christmas every year. She loved traveling and took many trips with both Wayne and her children. Joan also loved her gardens and kept a large rose garden. Her children remember her calm, happy disposition and the childhood rhymes, stories and songs that she recited often. Her sister and daughters both remember her singing as she did the dishes. They learned many songs from her as they helped her with this task. Joan loved the outdoors and went camping regularly. She and Wayne visited multiple national parks throughout their lives. They fell in love with Yellowstone and spent at least 2 weeks there exploring new areas of the park every year. Joan spent many years working in her profession as an accountant. She was active in the LDS church and held many callings in the various organizations including cub scouts, Primary, Relief Society and Sunday School.  Joan was actively involved in genealogy work and bore testimony to her family of the importance of it.
You will be greatly missed Joan. We love you.
