Clair was born in Upalco, UT to Pearl Eugenia and Elwin Williams. He had 3 older sisters; Neva, Peggy and Lola. He is preceded in death by his parents and sisters. They soon moved to Salt Lake City, UT where he spent the majority of his life. He worked mainly as a mechanic in his earlier years. He spent some time working in the coal mines near Orangeville, UT and then in maintenance. His last job was with the University of Utah Healthcare as the Facilities Coordinator at the Greenwood Center where he retired in 2012. He enjoyed camping, fishing and was an avid basketball fan. He and his wife also greatly enjoyed taking trips to Wendover, NV.
He was greatly admired by all of his friends and family and we will all truly miss him. He had a quick wit, always a silly joke or the sometimes inappropriate comment which always made us laugh. He was rarely seen without a baseball cap or hat of some kind, in fact he must have acquired quite a collection.
He was a living statement and testament to the fact of course families love each other” because there was no other option to him. That was how he raised all 6 of his children, how he taught a family that could have otherwise been splintered by divorce and remarriage that family was always, always, always family and since he was our family and we were his, he glued us all together. He’s the reason my family is so close, the reason we all held hands last night and said goodbye, the reason we were, have been, and always will be together.
There is literally no person on this earth that could equate what Elwin Clair Williams did for himself, his family, and our happiness together. It hurts like hell to think of his recliner chair, his basketball memorabilia, and his home without him. There are dozens of people he brought together and we’re never going to be truly without him, so long as we’re all together…and we will be.
