Elva Simmons Williams

July 30, 1935 — August 28, 2016

Elva Simmons Williams, 81, of Salt Lake City, Utah passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 28, 2016 after a hard fought 10 year battle on dialysis.
Born on July 30, 1935 in Spanish Fork, Utah.  She was preceded in death by her parents Kenneth Alma Simmons and Martha Elvira Davis Simmons, brothers Albert Kenneth Simmons and Elmo Simmons, son Kelly Simmons Williams and granddaughter Sadie Marie Williams.
Elva is survived by her eternal companion of 63 years, S. Gordon Williams, sister Edith Simmons Murray (Jim), brother Boyd Simmons (Janine), children Linda K Cox (Kelly), David G. Williams (Sharon), Michelle Carter (Steven), Jana Williams (Kelly), Stacey Shumway (Paul) and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Elva grew up in Spanish Fork until she graduated from Spanish Fork High School in 1953.  Shortly after graduation she was married to her high school sweet heart in the Manti LDS temple.  They shared a few years outside of Utah with the majority of her life being spent in Salt Lake raising their 5 children.  It was in her home of 43 years where she taught her children integrity, morals, strong work ethics and the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Elva worked as a Title 1 Specialist with Granite School District for over 25 years.   She loved working with and helping children.   Hundreds of students benefitted from her talents, including many of her grandchildren.   She served in numerous positions within the LDS Church and was a dedicated servant of the lord.
Elva was a three time cancer survivor; teaching others how to persevere through many of life’s challenges.   She was a very strong and devout example.   She loved her family dearly, was kind and a ­­thoughtful person.  Her contagious smile and loving hugs will be sorely missed.
The viewing for Elva will be held Thursday, September 1st from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Memorial Mountain View Mortuary, 3115 East 7800 South (Bengal Blvd), Cottonwood Heights, UT.  Funeral services held Friday, September 2nd at the Springview ward house, 3151 South 900 East, Salt Lake City at 11:00 a.m. viewing prior to services from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.  Interment will be at Memorial Mountain View Cemetery.
