Elva H. Kirk

Elva H. Kirk, aged 99 years, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on March 29, 2024 in Murray, Utah.

Elva was born March 19, 1925 to Ludella Marie Jacobsen Harward and Eldon Harward in Standardville, Utah. She spent her childhood in Emery, Utah and moved to Salt Lake City in 1933 where she lived the remainder of her life.

Mom went to school in Salt Lake and graduated from Granite High School, continuing on in her studies to graduate from the University of Utah, Phi Beta Kappa, an Honorary Scholastic Society.

Mom worked during the summers at Remington Arms and Hill Air Force Base in support of World War II activities. She also worked as a librarian at Granite High School, University of Utah and the Granite School District.

Elva enjoyed many and varied activities throughout her life. She was an avid organizer, gardener, a caring mother, a rock collector and an antique furniture refinisher. On family fishing trips, Mom would fish awhile then put down her pole and collect rocks. She passed her love of geology to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We all love rocks… Mom also loved everything Christmas, the lights, the decorations, the tree and the music.

As Mom got older, she slowed down enough to watch TV at night with her daughter. She enjoyed watching old movies, documentaries and comedies, along with a little popcorn or a late-night pickle snack.

She is survived by her daughter, Loretta (Holladay, UT), son, David (Sandy, UT), two daughters-in-law, Valerie (William) and Cuc (David); six grandchildren, Jaclynn (Loretta), Ryan, Kelly, Kyle (William), Laura and Michelle (David).

She is preceded in death by her husband, William, son, William (Bill), mother, Ludella, and father, Eldon.

Funeral services for Elva will be held beginning with an evening viewing on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Memorial Lake Hills Mortuary located at 10055 South State Street in Sandy, Utah. A graveside funeral service will take place the next day at the Memorial Lake Hill Cemetery at the same address on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 at 11:30 AM. There will be a viewing held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the same address prior to the graveside service.
