Elsie Anderson

March 19, 1922 — August 7, 2014

Elsie Denning Anderson, 92, peacefully passed away, surrounded by her family on Thursday, August 7, 2014.
Elsie was born March 19, 1922 to Oliver Williams Denning and Orlie Johnson Denning in Iona, Idaho. At age 7 she contracted spinal meningitis and lost her hearing. She attended public school for 4 more years and at age eleven she went to the Idaho School for the Deaf in Gooding Idaho where she graduated in 1938. It was there that Elsie met her sweetheart, Lawrence (Larry) Leland Anderson. After graduation Elsie went to beauty school in Idaho Falls and finished her training before she was even old enough to take the state exams.
Elsie and Larry were married August 13, 1941 in the Logan LDS Temple. In 1946 they bought an acre of land in Holladay, Utah where they built their home little by little as their family grew. Elsie lived in this home the rest of her life. They had four sons and one daughter, 19 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren. Larry passed away in 1986 and Elsie kept herself busy with with family, reading and sending birthday cards to every one of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an active member of the LDS Church and served in many callings in both the deaf and hearing wards. She Served as Secretary to the Ward Clerk for over 20 years in the Cottonwood 2nd Ward.
My grandma is the kindest, most wonderful woman in the world. She has had a hard life and with each struggle she has grown stronger and braver as she has moved through her challenges. She never complained. Even today, she continues to smile sweetly and say "I'm fine" to each and every visitors who comes to see her.
Elsie was the sweetest woman who always found the good in everyone and made the best of the challenges that she had. No matter what her struggle, if you asked how she was, she would smile as she said, “I’m fine”. Elsie had a story or poem for most any situation that came up and kept everyone smiling and laughing with her quick wit.
Elsie is survived by her Children, Kent (Cindy) Anderson, Arlington TX, Theron (Cathy) Anderson, South Jordan UT, Karen (Wendell) Tidwell, South Jordan, UT and Boyd (Marilee) Anderson, Salt Lake City, UT, and her Sister Darla (DeLynn) Cook, Salem OR.
