Elizabeth May Stewart (Hocker)

December 20, 1950 — February 9, 2022

Elizabeth May Stewart (Hocker), 71, of West Jordan, Utah, surrounded by family at home, was embraced by her Heavenly Father the morning of February 9, 2022.
Elizabeth was born in Cape May, Middle Township, New Jersey, December 20, 1950. She graduated from Middle Township High School in 1969. She moved from New Jersey to Utah in 1976 and was baptized and confirmed a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, November 6, 1976. She was married to Scott Golden Stewart, September 12, 2008, and sealed to him in the Salt Lake Temple, December 20, 2016.
One of her fondest memories of her childhood was climbing into her father’s lap as he watched a sports broadcast on the television. Her father gave her an easel which she used to draw picture after picture of her favorite doll, trying to get each one better than the last. Artwork was a passion of hers throughout life. Animals were one of her other great loves, she was especially fond of horses and dogs, and had a special place in her heart for her dog Yoda.
Her greatest ambition in life was to be a mother. Heavenly Father gave her the responsibility to care for three children, Anthony, Blaine, and Rebecca. She proved herself to be a wonderful mother, and her children are forever thankful for the sacrifices she made to raise them in childhood and provide counsel to them in adulthood. She was proud that her sons served missions for The Church, and that her daughter Rebecca blessed her with grandchildren. It brought her great happiness to know that all her children continue to make their best effort to follow the example of Jesus Christ.
As a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints she was blessed to obtain employment at the Jordan River Temple where she worked as a baker for 27 years until her retirement in 2016. Working in the temple brought her great peace and comfort. She was blessed and loved by the lifelong friends that she worked with there.
In her retirement years she found great pleasure in pursuing her lifelong love of painting. Her favorite subjects included landscapes, dolphins, swans, buffalo, bears, and birds. It is easy to see that with each new painting, her skills, precision, and dedication to detail improved. She was also blessed in her retirement to have the energy and means to travel and vacation with her sweetheart, Scott. Her other hobbies included crocheting and sewing. She also enjoyed watching Hallmark Movies & Mysteries and relaxing with mobile games and telling her family members about the progress she was making in them. She was also actively involved in family history research throughout her life.
In the final months of her life, her greatest pleasure was her grandbabies, twins Michelle and Danielle. She spent several months with them as newborns in Indiana, and her happiest moments were hearing stories about them from her daughter, their mother, Rebecca, and receiving videos and pictures of them.
She is survived by children Anthony William Puglisi Myers of Utah, Blaine Everett Myers (Ashley) of Texas, and Rebecca May McKinney (Aaron) of Indiana; grandchildren Eve, Michelle, and Danielle; sisters Annis, Pamela, and Sandy; and brother Raymond Paul.
She is preceded in death by her parents Mary Lawton Hocker and Raymond Pearl Hocker.
Elizabeth was blessed to know the virtue of suffering. She faced many disappointments, frustrations, and challenges throughout her life. She also knew of love, patience, and kindness. She was an example of Christlike love and sacrifice. It took two forms of cancer to take her from this world, and she will be missed until she can be embraced by her family and friends in the hereafter.
THAT WHICH WAS
That which was, would love to be
The sweet loving thing that once was me
Break down these walls…set me free
Make a believer out of me
Don’t let me die in vain
Come into my life and ease the pain
Tell me you love me…. don’t explain
Just watch as I learn to live again…
-Liz Hocker
