Elizabeth Lee Strang

January 23, 1935 — October 1, 2016

Elizabeth Lee Strang, 81 died October 1, 2016 peacefully at her home in Murray, Utah Saturday morning.
She was born January 23, 1935 in Price, Utah to Dowd Jessen and Myrtle Larsen. She has one living brother Bob Jessen and one brother preceded her in death David Jessen and one sister Myrtleree Slaugh.
She was married November 7th 1954 in Price, Utah to Richard Strang of Scofield, Utah. She is survived by 2 children Christy Pearce and Gary Strang. She has 6 grandchildren Ryan,Cody, Danielle, Tyler,Daniel, Kolby. 4 great grandchildren Duncan, Abbey, Kylie, Zavien.
As a youth in Price, Utah she enjoyed riding horses and was in many rodeos and events. Friends said she was a bit of a tom boy loving doing things outside on the farm with her grandfather.
She only lasted one cold winter in Scofield and it was time for the big city. They moved to Salt Lake in 1955 & built a home in Murray and have lived there ever since.
She served in Primary on both a local and stake level and really cared for all the kids. She and her longtime neighbor Penny even dressed up as snowmen for one of the activities. Penny also said she was a great neighbor and always willing to help anyone in need.
Mom loved her family. As each of her 6 grandchildren came along, followed by 4 great grandchildren, she always had a new crocheted blanket ready to wrap them in her love. She was always up for sleepovers, trips to Price to see Grandma Jessen, and camping in Scofield.
She loved to knit and make afghans for the grandchildren along with sweaters and hats. She was very talented and always had several projects going just to keep her hands busy. She loved to knit, crochet, cross stitch, and sew clothing for Christy and herself. She made exquisite Barbie doll clothes, and in the last couple years she crocheted several hats to be donated to cancer victims.
Mom liked to cook Thanksgiving dinner for as long as she could and show off her Blue Daisy Dinnerware. Everyone loved to go to ‘Grandmas’ for turkey dinner.
Mom had a strong work ethic. When Dad could no longer work and she became the breadwinner, it was hard for her to leave her children and the role she enjoyed so much, just being a Mom and a homemaker. She rose to the challenge and has been a great example for us. She worked for AT&T for 27 years.
Mom always had a love of wearing T-shirts with funny sayings on them. She would pick out just the right one when going to her doctor appointments they always excited to see which one she had picked out with them in mind.
Mom loved animals; horses in her earlier years and her cats during the last 30 years. There was Gato, Muffy, and Lucky. Lucky was her favorite and became her caretaker in some ways. If her breathing was not just right, he would jump on her lap and tap his head against her face to wake her up. On particular bad days, he was right by her side, bringing comfort.
We will miss her so very much and are grateful for the time we had together with our mom.
We are grateful for the love and care given from Home Instead and Hearts for Hospice to mom in these last months to ease her pain and provide comfort to her. As per Lee’s wishes a private family graveside service will be held Friday October 7, 2016 at Redwood Memorial 6500 S Redwood Road West Jordan, Utah.
