Elizabeth (Betty) Jane Wright Heath, born November 17, 1926 in Conrad, Montana, died May 27, 2016, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Betty will be welcomed in heaven by her sisters, Helen Wright Jeppson and Barbara Wright Horton, her brother James Wright and her parents Earl Lorenzo Wright and Lucy Elizabeth White Wright.
Betty was a happy, kind and caring lady who made friends everywhere she lived: Brigham City, UT; Logan, UT; Firth, ID; Magna, UT; Roosevelt, UT; Ely, NV; Tempe, AZ; Lompoc, CA; and Murray, UT. Betty was student body vice-president at Box Elder HS, Brigham City and graduated class of 1944. She was a Brigham City Peach Days Queen, Utah State University Homecoming Queen and an Ogden Days of ‘47 Rodeo Queen Attendant. No wonder Ted Heath noticed this beautiful girl at Utah State University. They married in the Salt Lake City Temple on March 20, 1947.
Besides being the best mom in the world to Rebecca Isakson (Larry), Ivins, UT; Nancy Allison Burt (Kenny), Janesville, CA; Betty Ann Mortensen (Lex), Severance, CO; Ted Earl Heath (Diana) Murray, UT and Susan Kay Rice (Marc) Oceanside, CA; Betty had many varied jobs throughout her life. She picked peaches in her Dad’s orchard in Willard; clerked at JCPenny in Brigham City; was a telephone operator “number please” girl in Brigham City, Logan and Roosevelt; substitute teacher and teacher’s aide in Lompoc, CA for 20 years. Betty loved riding horses, playing softball, swimming, diving and reading.
Betty was raised in a musical family. Her Mom played piano, her Dad sang and her brother played guitar in a western band. She sang in a trio with her sisters and with musical groups wherever she lived. Betty played the piano by ear and could play about anything she heard. Ted and Betty sang duets for many church meetings. Mom was “Charity Never Faileth” personified. She was Relief Society President in most every ward where she lived. She taught many how to make bread, she cleaned houses, visited the sick and always had a listening ear. She was a friend to all. Ted and Betty served an LDS mission in the Mesa Arizona Temple Visitor’s Center, 1990-91. They also served in the Los Angeles Temple for two years.
Betty is survived by her husband of 69 years, Ted Heath; 5 children; 13 grandchildren: Elizabeth Kennedy, Joanna Shaeffer, Jon Isakson, Jimmy Isakson, Zack Burt, Josh Burt, Ryan Mortensen, Andrew Mortensen, Melissa Heath, Mackenzie Heath, Austin Heath, Steve Rice, and David Rice; and 25 great grandchildren.
