Elizabeth Keil Hanneman passed away April 9th, 2025 in Draper Utah at the age of 98. Elizabeth, named after her grandmother Sarah Elizabeth, lived an incredible 98 years surrounded by family, adventure, and unwavering strength. She was born to William Keil and Florence Bringhurst and was one of six children—growing up alongside her siblings Martin, Paul, George, Eleanor, and Florence.
Raised in a hardworking family, Elizabeth spent her early years helping on her parents’ chicken farm—gathering eggs, herding sheep, tending the garden, and playing games with her family and neighborhood kids. She had a spirited youth, remembered for being the only player to hit a home run on her 9th-grade ball team, dancing with maypole streamers at Liberty Park, and proudly carrying the flag in the 24th of July parade.
After graduating high school, Elizabeth attended the University of Utah and later LDS Business College. At 21, she married and became a devoted mother to five children: Don, Ron, Rodney (preceded in death), Steve, and Cindy.
At age 45, Elizabeth experienced a period of great loss—losing her mother, father, and husband within six months. Despite these hardships, she showed incredible resilience, working at her Parkview Nursery Daycare for 23 years and later surviving multiple battles with cancer.
Elizabeth loved to travel and was always on the move. She was a proud member of the Utah Historical Society and explored every corner of Utah. Through her involvement in Utah Sunday Singles, she went on five cruises and visited nearly every U.S. state, parts of Canada, and destinations abroad including Germany, France, Switzerland, Spain, and Egypt—where she even rode a camel. She fished in Alaska, cruised the Panama Canal, and explored Hawaii and Africa.
She had a passion for bowling, maintaining a 170 average well into her 80s. Elizabeth served as president and longtime secretary of her bowling league and was a dedicated member of the Taylorsville Senior Center for 16 years. There, she taught exercise classes, served as vice president and secretary of the trips and tours council, and organized trips to Wendover and beyond.
Elizabeth outlived three husbands—Owen Barrett, Keith Clark, and Norm Hanneman and throughout her life remained a steadfast member of the Bennion Ward. She loved camping, fishing, making quilts for her grandchildren, and cheering for the Green Bay Packers and the Utah Jazz.
She is preceded in death by her three husbands (Owen Barrett, Keith Clark and Norm Hanneman), 2 children (Rodney and Ron) as well as 1 grandchild. Elizabeth is survived by her brother Paul (Maureen) Keil, Son’s Don Barrett, Steve (ClaDeane) Barrett, Daughter Cindy (Todd) Thompson, Step-son Gary Hanneman, 11 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Her life was defined by her love for family, sense of adventure, deep faith, and joyful spirit. She leaves behind a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
She will be dearly missed by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the countless friends whose lives she brightened. Elizabeth's services will be held on April 17, 2025 at Memorial Redwood Mortuary & Cemetery, located at 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, UT.Viewing will begin at 1pm, followed by memorial service at 2pm and internment directly after.
