Elias Rivera Torres

June 13, 1924 — April 23, 2017

Elias beloved brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, dear friend, and fellow coworker in the Kingdom of God returned to his Heavenly home this past Sunday, April 23, 2017.  He was born on June 13, 1924 at Salt Lake City, Utah  to Rafael and Dolores Torres, the eldest of six children. He was born with a keen intellect and the drive to succeed. He graduated from West High School and went on to graduate from the school of Engineering at the University of Utah. On the 17th of June 1943 he enlisted in the Armed Forces where he served during World War II. Upon his return he received a call to serve in the Mexican Mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He married his true love Luz Rodriquez of Chalco, Mexico on July 12, 1951, which would be solemnized in the Mesa, Arizona Temple three months later on the 23 of Oct. 1951. He would go on to serve in two Bishoprics as a counselor, two High Councils, Bishop of the Lucero Ward in Salt Lake City, a public relations missionary with his wife in the Dominican Republic. He was a Temple worker and sealer in the Jordan River Temple where he and Luz initiated the work among the Hispanic Saints in the Salt Lake Valley.  He retired from aerospace engineering to help his father, Rafael, with the El Farol Restaurant, where he would continue the legacy which his Father began.  He is survived by his wife Luz, and children David (María Luisa), Margarita, Noemi (Joel), Samuel (Ruby), Dolores (Roberto) and Paul, 26 Grandchildren and 15 Great Grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his parents Rafael and Dolores Torres, siblings Luis, Regina, and Rey, his son Luis, and his grandson David Moses.The funeral will be held on Saturday, April 29 at 11:00 at the Murray 2nd Ward, 363 East Vine Street, Murray, Utah. A viewing will be held prior to the funeral at 10:00-10:45 and Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 at Lake Hills Funeral Home. (10055 So.
