Elfriede Gisela Galke Keller

March 3, 1930 — February 17, 2022

Elfriede Gisela Galke Keller passed away peacefully at home February 17, 2022 after a long illness.  Elfriede was born March 3, 1930 to Alfred Richard Galke and Alice Elisabeth Karsch in Breslau, Germany.
Elfriede and her family joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They were blessed through many hardships with their unshakeable faith to escape war-torn Europe and immigrate to the United States in 1954, settling in Salt Lake City, Utah.  The Salt Lake Temple was a beautiful view from their apartment window, and Elfriede passed it daily going to and from work.  The Temple was their spiritual and physical anchor to literally help find the way home.
In 1959 she met Eugen Keller, who quickly became the love of her life.  On April 8, 1960, they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple and enjoyed 26 years together.  They are now together forever.  They have three daughters, Patricia, Rebecca, and Ursula who were raised in, as their Dad called it, “das drei Mädel Haus!”  Elfriede was determined and practical and adjusted well to her new life in America.  She attended L.D.S. Business College and earned a degree in Accounting.  She became the Accounting Manager at Beehive Credit Union, and worked there until she retired
She served faithfully in many callings in the Church, and because of her love for the Temple, she gained a passion for family history work, doing extracting, indexing, arbitration, and taking family names weekly to the Temple.  Due to declining health, her last chance to attend the Temple was September 17, 2021.  It was so important to her to have a current temple recommend and renewed it just three weeks before her passing.
We have always looked to”Omi” and her mother and family as pioneers who crossed their country and sailed to America to come to Zion and be near the Temple.  She endured faithfully to the end and left this life facing Zion –the very Zion she and her family sacrificed so much to find. We are eternally grateful and love you Mom!
Elfriede is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Hans Dieter and Erbo, and her husband Eugen, and survived by her daughters Patti, Becky (Michael), and Ursi (Brent);  14 Grandchildren Amber Kiser (Daniel), Aubrey Cooper, Adam Cooper(Abigail), Alissa Cooper, Aidan Cooper, Kimberly Karlinsey (Jonas),Jacob Edmonds (Stacia), Daniel Edmonds (MaCall), Aimee Hugo (Benjamin), Zachary Edmonds, Jonathan Edmonds (Lindsay),  Eric Tingey (Megan), Ben Tingey (Liz), Claire Clark (David) and 19 Great grandchildren.
