Elaine Williams Nelson Petersen

January 19, 1935 — May 3, 2021

Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to all, Elaine Williams Nelson Petersen, age 86, reunited with her husband, Raymond ‘Pete’ Neff Petersen, and son Lance, on Monday, May 3, 2021. During this pandemic time, we are grateful loved ones were able to be with her at Jordan Valley Medical Center at her passing. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Elaine was the second of six children born to Fred Elmer Nelson and Leona Burbank Williams Nelson on January 19,1935 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was proud of her early pioneer ancestors that made the trek across the plains settling in Brigham City, Utah. Throughout her early life, she accompanied her family on frequent visits to Brigham City and enjoyed the time she spent with her grandparents, cousins, and other extended family.
She graduated from South High School where she participated in the Pep Club, Social Arts Club, and Nursing Club. She continued her education by attending LDS Business College acquiring secretarial skills and training. Her interests then took her down a different path as she learned how much she loved children while working as a nurses aid with physically challenged children in the pediatric unit at LDS Hospital. Children were immediately drawn to her as she shared her love for them. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she had wonderful experiences serving and working as a teacher and nursery leader in the ward and stake Primary Organization and as Secretary in the Sunday School. She also performed two years of service extracting genealogical data.
At the age of six, Elaine developed a love of art. As a hobby, she began sketching and drawing cartoons and also pursued painting. Elaine grew up in a family that enjoyed camping and the great outdoors. She attended family gatherings and campouts as often as possible.
As a young adult, she had a restless spirit and ventured out living and working in multiple states. Employment opportunities that came her way include working as a silent partner in Artex Embroidery Business, a telephone operator for both Mountain Bell in New Mexico and at Boeing Aircraft in Seattle, Washington.
Elaine met her husband ‘Pete’ (Raymond Petersen) when she was 19 years old and they soon went their separate ways. This friendship was renewed 16 years later after being divorced from their first marriage partners. After becoming reacquainted, they dated for five years and then united in marriage. Elaine is the mother of two children, Lance Antonio Nelson, who died as an infant, and a beautiful, cherished daughter, Wendy Elaine Petersen Andreason, who has always provided loving care and support for her mother. In her later years, Elaine enjoyed living with and being close to Wendy’s family which includes two wonderful grandsons that she adored, Zachary and Tyler.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, Reed and Fred (Rigmore) Nelson, a sister and brother-in-law, Jean Tuckfield (Lysle), a son, Lance, and son-in-law, Bradley Andreason. She is survived by one sister, Dona (Sidney) Gold and a brother, Kenneth (Ann) Nelson, her daughter, Wendy Andreason, two grandsons, Zachary and Tyler Andreason, and many loving nieces and nephews.
