“Beloved Mother, who taught her children to soar like eagles”
Elaine Schwar Weis, age 84, passed away May 13, 2014. Born in Salt Lake City, UT to Henry and Isabelle Fox Schwar on January 7, 1930.
She received her education in Salt Lake City and graduated from South High School in 1948. She went on to get her diploma in Accounting from Utah Tech in 1969 and attended classes at the University of Utah. Mom worked for the Department of Social Services for 24 years and retired in January of 1994 at the age of 64. She married our Dad, William Talmage Weis, in the Salt Lake Temple on August 30, 1948 (later divorced). She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was active as a teacher in the Sunday School, Primary and Relief Society. On Wednesday’s, she served at the Family History Center in Manti, UT where she lived for 14 years after retiring. During her retirement she joined the International Society of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and was assigned to the Arropine Camp-Sanpete Company in 2000. She was elected to be 1st Vice Captain (later elected as Chaplain of the camp and was chosen to be Parliamentarian).
Survived by her children, Steven, Robin Slagle, Kevin, Michael, William and John; 30 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her son Martin, her parents and brother Garen Schwar.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm, Friday, May 16, 2014 at Redwood Memorial, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan with a viewing to begin at 1:00. Interment to follow.
