Age 101
After a long full life, Elaine passed away peacefully in her sleep during the night January 27, 2021 in Sandy Utah at the home of her son.
Elaine Carstensen Johnson was born February 26, 1919 in Salt Lake City to Joseph Hyrum and Leone Almira Carstensen. In 1924 they moved to Ogden where the family lived for twelve years. After moving back to Salt Lake City she graduated from South High School. She earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree from the University of Utah in 1940. Married Alvin P Johnson on September 9, 1941 in the Salt Lake Temple. As a life-long active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in many callings in Forest Dale Ward and Granite Stake. While still living in her home on Windsor Street, she served for 12 years as Relief Society president at the St. Joseph Villa care facility, showing compassion and great love to those residing there. She was a proud member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.
She was preceded in death by her husband Alvin in 1995, her parents, her only sibling Joe Carstensen, and one grandson.
Elaine is survived by her two sons, Gregory Jeff Johnson of South Salt Lake and Tony Scott (Debra) Johnson of Sandy, eleven grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services at Elysian Gardens, SLC, will be limited to family members. No public viewing will be held.
