Elaine Gray Wade

December 28, 1934 — March 8, 2016

Elaine Gray Wade was born in Escalante, Utah on December 28, 1934 to Lester Leroy and Cora Osborn Gray. She left this earth life on March 8, 2016 in Riverton, Utah at the age of 81 to join her husband, Erven who died January 30, 1988. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She married Erven C. Wade on August 19, 1955 in the Idaho Falls temple.
They are the parents of seven children: Kevin Lynn (Suzanne) Wade, Kaysville, UT; Larene (Craig) Spitler, Cedar City, UT; Marlene (Paul) Shepherd, West Jordan, UT; Alan Leroy (Shirlene) Wade, Bolton, CT; Bonnie (Scott) Hansen, Elk Ridge, UT; Karen Marie (Kyle) Hansen, Eagle Mountain, UT; Brent McKay (Jeannie) Wade, Sandy, UT.
She is the grandmother of 34 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren. She is survived by one sister, Ann Valeen (Russell) Borneman.
She was eager to be reunited with her eternal companion, Erven, her brother, Donald, sisters Cleva and Elna Rae, her father and mother, her daughter-in-law Suzanne, and grandson, Tyler, who preceded her into paradise. She was very sad to leave her sister, Valeen, as well as all her children and their spouses, grandchildren and spouses, and great-grandchildren.
Elaine graduated from Pocatello High School where she was active in Pep Club, Yearbook Staff and Girls council. She was employed by the Tendoy BSA Council and Farmer’s Insurance group in Pocatello. After moving to Seattle in 1956, both she and Erven worked for Boeing Aircraft. After moving to Utah, she was employed at White City Water Company, as a secretary aide at Edgemont Elementary, and as a FHA Loan Insurer at Aim Mortgage. She also worked for the Utah State Prison in Bluffdale as a secretary in the dental office and medical infirmary before retiring. She was very gifted with organizational skills and financial management, raising a large family with limited resources.
She was an active member of the Church and served in many callings. The first calling she held was with Erven as dance directors in the youth organization. She also served in the Primary, Sunday School, Library, Young Women, and Single Adults. The calling she enjoyed most was serving as secretary to the stake presidency for nine years. She also enjoyed and did an extensive amount of family history and temple work.
Her hobbies included sewing, reading, flower gardening, music, dancing, photography, computer data-entry, and taking care of her home. She loved the gospel, attending BYU Education Week and learning. She learned how to play the organ later in life for her own enjoyment. Even though she never learned the skill of swimming, she did enjoy snorkeling in Hawaii. She liked to travel and visit new places. Her travels included many states as well as Canada and a cruise to Europe.  She was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, Sandy Ladies Club and Tithing Condo Book Club. She participated in the clubhouse pool aerobics with her friends.
She liked to give gifts to others, especially family, never missing a birthday of any of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was so grateful for all of the good things in her life and felt she benefitted from the adverse conditions she had experienced. She felt they helped her to be a more understanding person.
In her last written testimony, she said, “I do hope that life on earth can go on for my family with happiness and faith in the future. I have a testimony of the gospel, the plan of salvation, the Atonement of Christ, scripture as truth, and prophets to guide us. The resurrection is real and will come to pass at the right time and our eternal lives will go on. Reach out to family who have strayed and love them. Be forgiving and keep the commandments always.”
Her family and friends will miss her dearly. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, sacrifice, and love.
