After a 2 ½ year fight with MDS which turned into Leukemia, Edward DeVeaux Smith passed away in his home on September 22, 2020. He was born on April 25, 1940 in Salt Lake City, Utah to George Benjamin and Georgia Belle Smith. He grew up in Holiday and graduated from Olympus High School in 1958. As a Senior he joined the Army Reserve, where he served for eight years, only interrupted for 2 ½ years to serve a Mission to Switzerland , where he learned to love the country and its people.
Ed was a lifelong devoted member and servant of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
He served in three different Bishoprics, and on the High Council, but his favorite calling was teaching the Gospel Doctrine and Gospel Essentials classes. Ed loved to learn and read. He received a Bachelors Degree in Education from the University of Utah, a Masters Degree in Adult Education from BYU and a Associates Degree in Computer Networking from Salt Lake Community College.
Ed married Doris Graeub on October 11, 1963. They are the parents of six children: Glen, Richard, Heidi, Carolyn, Sharon, and Sydnee. Ed is survived by his wife Doris, his sister Janet, his children and spouses, 22 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 1 niece and 2 nephews, and numerous cousins. Ed is preceded in death by his parents Georgia and Ben Smith. Ed will be remembered for his love of his wife and family, his quick goofy humor, his service in the church, and his untiring love and devotion to his Savior. Ed was the greatest example of human kindness, generosity and unconditional love.
A public viewing is scheduled for Sunday, September 27th from 5:00 pm-7.00 pm at Memorial Holladay-Cottonwood Mortuary, 4670 South Highland Drive, Holladay, UT 84117.
Private Funeral Services will be held Monday, September 28th 2020 at Memorial Holladay-Cottonwood Mortuary, 4670 South Highland Drive, Holladay UT 84117. Because of Covid-19 the attendance is limited to 50 people which is reserved for family and those included in services. Funeral services will be live streamed via Zoom.
