1914-2016
Edna Rickard Hayes, age 101, finished her allotted time in this life on January 2, 2016, and unafraid, looked forward to the next part of her continuing journey.
She was born December 24, 1914 in Wigan, Lancashire, England to Norman and Sarah Rickard. Edna married Horace E. Hayes on September 8, 1934. They immigrated to America in 1947, showing great courage in leaving a loving family and financial security in order to provide their family with a better future. Our family will remain thankful to Mom for this sacrifice along with her guidance and unconditional love.
She and her husband owned and operated several businesses, among them a dress shop, bakery, grocery store, theater and drive-in theater. She held many LDS Church positions over the years but her crowning achievement in her service to the Church was the opportunity of opening a mission in India and fulfilling a two year commitment there. She was a talented seamstress and made the best chocolate chip cookies and pies ever eaten.
She is survived by her legacy of adoring and grateful children: Graham (Carla) Hayes, Verna (Ted) Stark, Beverly (Frank) White, Carol (Craig) Bennett, Jeff Hayes and husband Steve Parker, Daughter Brenda Harmer and daughter in law Marie Hayes; 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Horace, beloved son Keith, son in law Gene Harmer and granddaughter Laurie, and every family member and friend of her generation. She has looked forward to a great and happy reunion with them.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, January 8, 2016 at Redwood Memorial Mortuary, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, UT. Viewings will be held from 6-8:00 pm on Thursday and one hour prior at the mortuary. Interment to follow.Service Information
