Edith Benson

May 6, 1921 — March 30, 2017

Edith Louise Benson, beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away at her home on March 30, 2017.  She was 95 years old.
Edith was born on May 6th, 1921 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Lester Pierce Fisher and Lucy Dexter Fisher.  She was the 7th of 9 children.
Edith married her sweetheart Tolva Duffy Benson on January 26th 1946 and was sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on May 28, 1952.  She is survived by her children Larry (Mae), Mike (Nancy), Linda Wheelwright (Greg), Buffi (Steve Shelin), 18 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild and sister Barbara Partna (Jacob).  She was preceded by her parents, husband Duff, sons Robert, Randy, George and grandson Matt Waggoner.
Edith was raised at the family owned and operated Fisher Dairy where her parents taught her to work hard and never complain.  She lived up to these qualities all her life and passed them on to her children as they grew up.  After her children were grown they moved to West Jordan for their retirement years.  Although they built a small house intended for the two of them, it was never empty, their door was always open to anyone who needed a place to live.
Edie loved her family and approached everything with humor, laughter and tolerance.  She enjoyed her yard and making it beautiful. She traveled abroad with her sister and loved going on long drives.  Her later years were spent raising her two grandsons and spending time with her extended family and friends.  She was known as Grandma Edie to the neighborhood children and would offer something to eat to anyone that knocked on her door.
Although her physical abilities diminished toward the end of her life, her mind remained strong and she still had her witty sense of humor that was there till the very last days.  Edie will be missed in life but welcomed by those that have passed before her.
Services will be held on April 6th at 11:00 AM with a viewing at 10 AM at Memorial Mountain View Cemetery, 3115 East 7800 South, Cottonwood Heights, Utah.
