E. Marcelle Wonnacott Baker, West Jordan, Utah, died March 5, 2014 at the age of 92.
Born March 31, 1921 to Horace “Ollie” and Olive Wonnacott in Salt Lake City, Utah. Married A. Wayne Baker, December 16, 1939, later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple.
She grew up in what is now South Salt Lake and attended Madison Elementary and graduated from Granite High School. During World War II, she worked as a secretary at Hill Air Force Base and at Remington Arms. After the war, she worked for Mountain States Telephone Company in their Directory Division.
She was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many supervisory positions, including Dance Director, Young Women’s President, Relief Society Presidency, Primary Teacher and Jordan River Temple Ordinance Worker/Trainer/Supervisor for 13 years. She also served as a Family History Consultant.
She and her husband moved to Phoenix, AZ in 1975, returning to Salt Lake City in 1977. She was a strong Jazz fan. She was a talented artist and sold many of her oil paintings.
She is survived by two daughters: Joan (Tonnie) Collins (Alfred R. Collins, deceased), Pierre, SD, and LeeAnn Francis (Jay Kent Francis) South Jordan, UT and one son, Robert Wayne Baker (Jeanna) of West Valley City, UT. She has 14 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, and 9 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the West Jordan Mountain View 1st Ward Chapel, 8825 South 3200 West, West Jordan, Utah on Monday, March 10, 2014 at 12:00 noon with a viewing at the church building from 10:30-11:30 am. Interment to follow at Mountain View Memorial Park, 3115 East 7800 South in Cottonwood Heights, UT.
