Earne Herbert Anderson passed away on January 23, 2015 at home after a short illness. He was born November 6, 1928 in Park City to Eric A. and Esther Sophia Anderson. He was the youngest of five children. Earne lived his childhood hunting rabbits and quail with his mastery of a flipper crotch (sling shot). He attended Park City High and was an exceptional athlete. He began his career as a janitor his sophomore year of school with Mountain State Telephone and Telegraph Company. After graduation in 1947 he began full time as a combination man and in 1959 became manager of the Park City office and Summit County for 20 years. In 1948 he married his high school sweetheart Betty J Smith and together raised three children. In 1979 he transferred to Salt Lake to become the dispatch foreman. In 1983 he retired with over 38 years of service.
While living in Park City he was president and secretary of Kiwanis. He instructed over 500 youth in gun safety. He was an active member of the Park City Fire Department from 1952 and retired as Assistant Fire Chief in 1979. For 16 years he was historian/photographer for the Utah State Firemen Association. He coordinated to achieve a fire district for Park City in 1975. He was a coordinator /member of the Park City Ski Club and was race team manager through Park West Ski Area. He judged the Golandi jumps at Alta from 1970-1975. He set up telephone circuits for ski races in Alta and the Park City areas throughout his career. He was a volunteer for every special need in Park City.
Earne is survived by his wife, Betty, of 67 years and his children, Albert Eric “Rick” Anderson, Laurie Jean (Auggie/Ed) Weil and his adopted daughter, Teri Ann Sullivan (Alan) Macias, 11 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his son Earne Blaine Anderson.
We will all miss those blue eyes and that incredible laugh and smile. As a friend said, “God has a new angel to hang with.”
