Duane Keith Hansen

November 20, 1947 — October 5, 2018

Duane Keith Hansen passed away on October 5, 2018 after a hard fought battle with health issues. Duane was born November 20, 1947 to Albert C. Hansen and Ethel Kemp. He spent a lot of time at Echo Reservoir during his teen years where he took care of the trash and maintenance of the resort. In his later teen years he helped back boats in and out of the water. He like to water ski behind his parent’s boat.
At Olympus High School, Duane spent a lot of time on the Stage Crew for the school plays, he also played football and met his sweetheart, Linda Burgener while they were waiting for Seminary to start after lunch. Duane and Linda were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on August 8, 1969. Duane went on to receive an Associates degree in Applied Science and Electronics Technology from Utah Technical College. He also received certificates in Bookkeeping, Tax Preparation and Welding, HVAC and Business. Duane was a Certified Emergency Response Team member and a licensed HAM Radio operator, where he used his skills to help with area emergencies.
Duane has worked for UNIVAC, University of Utah Electrical Engineering department, Trans-Western Insurance Agency and did building maintenance for Arrow Press Square. While at Arrow Press he was excited to meet Della Reese, Roma Downey and the cast of Touched by an Angel when they were filming a Halloween episode with a live lion. Also, while at Arrow Press, he received his HVAC license and started his own HVAC business. He provided HVAC support for Daniel Snarr.
Duane had wonderful vacations with his family, hiking and camping in Yellowstone and the Wasatch Mountains. Some vacations included Cape Cod, Washington DC and Disneyland. Some of the most memorable in recent years was his and Linda’s Christmas vacation to visit their daughter, Michele in Massachusetts and their trip to Tacoma Washington to pick up their son, Steve, from his mission.
He had a sailboat and enjoyed sailing on the Great Salt Lake. He was a member of the Great Salt Lake Yacht Club. He also had a private pilot’s license. He flew with his children and brother, Melvin. He and Linda enjoyed gardening; they always had a vegetable garden in the backyard. When Linda was receiving treatments for cancer, he planted all of their garden by himself.
Duane loved music. He played with the West Valley Symphony, where he and Linda performed with the Symphony and Civic Chorus. He also performed with the Murray Concert Band where he was Band President for several years. He also performed with the Letter Carrier Band. He put together a group and they played at a Wedding Reception of a close friend.
Duane could fix anything and if he didn’t know how to fix something he would get on the internet and find out how to fix it. He was always willing to help anyone, anytime. He was always helping a neighbor or friend to fix anything. He checked the Murray South Cottonwood Ward Building every night to make sure it was secured for many years and served as Ward Clerk for the Ivins Ward. Linda and his children will miss not having to call a repair person to fix things that break.
Duane said if he could live his life over he would be kinder and more loving.
He is survived by his loving wife, Linda of 49 years, his children: Misty (Chris) Burk, Michele (Greg) Hill, Christy Hansen, Steve (Meleece) Hansen; his brothers: Ed (Jan) Hansen, Melvin (Dawn) Hansen; uncle, Keith Kemp and Sister-in-law, Pat (Morris) Christensen.
He and Linda give special thanks to the University of Utah doctors and staff, all of the staff of Landmark, Spring Creek and Rocky Mountain Care Center and Hospice for all their care. They also want to give thanks for the many messages, thoughts and prayers of family and friends and the kidney, Francis gave Duane.
